Hello all, first post here.
I've had this 1860 Army Colt for about 20 years, acquired it in a trade for God knows what.
I'm looking to sell it and trying to come up with a fair asking price? I'm hoping with the pics provided your members can give me some input?
The serial number on the frame, trigger guard and barrel is 79726. The wedge is 9726, not sure what happened to the first 7, it looks like it was never stamped.
I have been unable to find the number on the cylinder.
The spring that holds the wedge in place is missing. The screw above the wedge is stripped.
The action seems to work, a little sloppy though. The hammer nipple alignment is off some.
For some reason, possibly to add a lanyard, the wood grips have been carved out.
Thanks for any and all help.
It was made in 1862 but it's in pretty sad shape and from the looks of the rest of it the bore probably resembles a sewer pipe. I'd say it's worth about $600.00
My data agrees with Hawg's. I'd agree that the value is somewhere around $500 or $600 to a Civil War Relic Collector. I'm thinking it's best odds are of being in a glass case on someone's wall as a conversation piece. Pretty cool.
I sold one (after not having a buyer for 6 months) for $800 a couple years ago in this condition, if it's any help....
I've seen them at the local Pawn for $500-$800 in okay (but not shootable) condition. Honestly, I'd bet you'd be told "It's a wall hanger" by several pawn shops.
Thanks for the info everyone, I'll head over to a Civil War forum and see if I can move it.
Thanks again
