Many 22's are ammo sensitive, and it may be possible to resolve jam issues simply by finding the ammo your gun "likes". As an example, I have a Sig Sauer (GSG) 1911-22 that will run very well on anything other than Federal brand ammo. None of my semi-auto 22 pistols will run on Federal Auto Match even though this ammo is designed for semi-auto 22's. I have no experience with the Chippa.
I also have a Ruger 22/45 Lite that will eat anything other than Auto Match. Other people I know that have had the same gun have traded them off simply because they weren't reliable for them. One person I know has the same gun and as long as he puts no more than 8 rounds in the mag, his gun will run all day. If he puts 10 rounds in it becomes a jam-o-matic.
I have no experience with 1911-22's but like has been already said 22 rimfire and semiauto are not always a good combo. I've had similar experiences with ruger 10-22's and can even take ammo that my sisters won't fire and put it in my bolt action and it fires fine. I do have experience with 1911's and studied up on them before I got mine. 106 years since the u.s. military adopted it and it's still a major contender in the handgun world. Just like everything else John M. Browning made its a fine firearm
I picked up a Chiappa 1911-22 two years ago. It was a trade in at a local shop and dirt cheap. It would not run with bulk .22 ammo. It runs well enough with the better quality stuff; CCI mini mags etc. The sights are good. I hate the cheap-feeling plastic magazines, but they work. Overall, I'm pleased with the gun.
There are quite few threads about 1911-22s and just about every one of them has at least one post that mentions the Chiappa. Use the search feature at the top of this (or any) page and do a search for the word "Chiappa" - tons of stuff.
Now that I have said that, I will mention that I once had a Chiappa 1911-22. Never really had any real problems with it, mine didn't jam and the accuracy was not all that bad. The worst thing I can say about it was that it had the second worst trigger pull of any gun I have ever had. It always seemed like the safety was on. Every time I fired it the trigger would not pull and I had to check to make sure the safety was off. I thought it would get better after shooting a while, but even after five or six hundred rounds it never got better. I used it as partial payment/trade for one of the Browning 1911-22s when my LGS finally got one.
PS: The gun that had th worst trigger was a H&K VP 70 Z that I owned back in the 70s.
Have no experience with the 1911-22, but have a little with Chiappa.
Chiappa made some guns for cowboy shooters a few years back. Expensive. And most of them did not work correctly. They would work, but not as evenly or as smoothly, or more important, as EVERY TIME YOU PULLED THE TRIGGER as a thousand-plus dollar rifle should.

I have a chiappa 9m carbine, worked great till about 500 rounds then it turned into a full automatic lol. It was fun but I sent it back and took a month to get it back.
My DIY Pseudo Ace, Philippine frame, Numrich innards & Ceiner conversion kit has digested all ammo I've tried. It is sensitive to being well lubricated.
The story about the Colt 1911 conversions, if I remember correctly went as follows. When Colt first came up with the idea of a 1911 in .22 caliber, they had a lot of trouble with it feeding and mostly cycling. Someone came up with the idea of a floating chamber and tried it, it functioned and digested ammo like the it should. Does the gun from the original post have this feature or not?
