Praying for strength today, wisdom, calmness abd tge Lord's intervention.

My little girl has not had a bowel movement in at least two days. We have here finishing up their slerp over. Poor creature attempted three times but aborted because she said it hurt. Two doses Miralax already and prunes cuties and good meals the last two days.

My step daughters management of this issue has failed. I am going to advise her parents she needs to see a pediatric GI specialist.

Pray I can inspire an adult response out of her mom. And pray my wife allows the discussion since she fears anytime I intervene they will first of all ignore me and secondly retaliate against us. Unfortunately plenty of examples of that happening before so her fears are not unfounded.

Perhaps posing my comnents as questions will ve bettet received than advising them on the proper course. Praying fir wisdom and God's intervention. The little girl needs help overcoming this issue and her parents have failed to understand how to help her.

The last couple of months her mother simply blames her instead of understanding she failed to intervene intelligently with this behavior.

May God intervene on her behalf.

Thank you all for your support and prayers. Once again the Lord has provided.

First, the dad showed up instead of mom to pick the kids up today. He doesn't cop an attitude as easily and readily discussed what the doctor had advised. I suggested the pediatric GI consult and he said they might consnider that. That would give a more detailed plan of action to them they could follow. Most likely the same plan I have tried to get them to follow for two years but if someone else states it, they might actually implement it.

Then about two hours ago, my little girl called to let me know she had success finally and it didn't even hurt even though it was "really big." She is such a sweet and loving little girl that breaks my heart she still has to deal with this issue that should have resolved quite a while ago with proper management.

Hopefully they can keep on top of things better. After two years they should have a ready understanding of how to help this poor girl but it seems they haven't learned much at all.

If they do follow through with the pediatric GI consult we might actually start to make some progress.

Thank you again for all your prayers and support. It is greatly appreciated. Thank our great and wonderful Lord things went well today. That hasn't always been the case.

    Thanks for the update.

Prayers that they will follow through and have the consult, and that the consult will see what needs to be done, give them the right treatment to follow, and that they will follow through with that plan.

Well the little girl is doing well today but her mom still cops an attitude ehich is nothing new for her.

She got involved BIG TIME in gangs as a teenager and was diagnosed as oppositional defiant. Among other things she was arrested for was being a runaway for nearly two months.

She may have turned away from those choices but her oppositional defiant personality remains.

I asked her what the doctor says about this and she essentially blames the girl and takes no personal responsibility even though she is the one deciding when to give her Miralax or not.

Not surprising but it means there will be no intelligent approach to this very treatable condition.

The child will only overcome this through prayers and God's grace. Unfortunately the parents are quite useless and in fact detrimental since they fail to understand the treatment goals and strategies.

    The saga will unfortunately continue.

Can't click the "like" button, but I have read it. Those parents will be brought up short one day.

So, a proper diet is something that is beyond the mother's comprehension?

The step daughter usually only works 3 days a week yet hates to cook even for guests. When we had Christmas dinner last month at their house, she got everything frpm Honeybaked and Cracker Barrel.

Take out Pizza is the most common meal. Chile and hot dogs cooked by dad is right up there as well. The girls are quite picky in what they like to eat so my wife and I always provide them with nutritious meals they like. We probably spend more money one feeding them then our own meal budget.

The girl does like oatmeal, corn, broccoli, green beans, carrots, oranges, prunes, raw strawberries and grapes so we try to have those available for meals and some of her snacks. Not a long list but workable so far. She is not easy to get enough down but with a bit of work it is quite possible.

Unfortunately the best foods are not a priority for her parents. Afterall, new cars with leather seats and top of the line models as well as a 65 inch TV in a huge house are more important.

The other issue is not inderstanding how to use Miralax properly. The first phase is to give enough to have 1-2 BMs a day to retrain her habits. That is the easy part. The hard part is the taper and maintenace phase where once the child stops volitional retention of stools with the failed reasoning it will keep them from painful BMs, the relapse rate is quite high because only one painful stool can reset the behaviour.

Understanding how to monitor and intervene in the second phase is where her parents are clueless. She has now been on Miralax for nearly two years and I firmly believe I could have overcome this issue if she was 24/7 with us.

Now they are back to square one. The biggest issue is we dont know what the long term side effects pf Miralax are since some of it is contaminated by traces of antifreeze that it is made from. The FDA is allegedly studying the issue now.

I would not want to see her on this indefinitely which is my impetus for praying for this situation.
